LEARN Welcomes New Director

LEARN Welcomes Linda T. Darcy to its Leadership Team
Linda T. Darcy, Director of Teaching and Learning

LEARN is excited to bring Linda T. Darcy to the region as the director of its Office of Teaching and Learning.

Ms. Darcy will drive the development of programs and services that build regional capacities and supports while also enhancing professional learning within LEARN’s own magnet schools. With the goal of advancing achievement for all students, she will lead a team devoted to exemplary, innovative, and equitable school-based programs.

A resident of Rockfall, Connecticut, Ms. Darcy is an educator, presenter, and keynote speaker. She spent 16 years as a secondary World Language Teacher in the Hartford region. With a primary focus on teacher professional learning, Ms. Darcy also served in several leadership positions, most recently with the Capitol Region Education Council (CREC) Resource Group. Her areas of expertise include: “The events of 2020 have given us a delicate opportunity. In the post-pandemic era, we will need to adapt teaching and learning to accommodate the varied needs of all students."

  • Diversity and Equity,
  • Culturally Relevant Pedagogy,
  • Curriculum and Instructional Design,
  • English Learners, and
  • Social-Emotional Learning.

When asked about her desire to come to LEARN, Ms. Darcy reflected upon the events of last year - the coronavirus pandemic, the murders of several men of color, and the new commitment of white people to begin dismantling the racism in our country. She stated, “The opportunity is clear…We must embed equity in every service we provide, whether it be curriculum development, instructional strategies or leadership training. I am excited about this position with LEARN because it will allow me to not only have an impact in LEARN member districts but will also allow me to work with the educators in the LEARN magnet schools to have a more direct influence on the lives of students.”

With a Bachelor of Arts degree in World Politics and a Master of Arts degree in Foreign Affairs, Ms. Darcy is currently studying for her doctorate in educational leadership at the University of Connecticut. Her primary areas of research include culturally relevant pedagogy, white silence, and building students’ sociopolitical consciousness. She reads, writes, and speaks French and Spanish at the advanced level.

“Ms. Darcy’s experience working in regional educational service centers coupled the knowledge she gained as a school administrator and teacher make her a natural choice to lead our teaching and learning efforts in 2021 and beyond. LEARN is ready to use the lessons from 2020 to create new, equitable opportunities for all. We believe Linda is just the person we need to propel us forward, post-pandemic. I look forward to the work we will accomplish together, on behalf of the region’s students.” Kate Ericson, LEARN Executive Director.

Ms. Darcy will begin with LEARN on March 22.
